Q. Why did Moshe’s mum put him in the stream? Why is Pharaoh so mean? [Nathan, aged 8]
A. That’s a great question and it rhymes!
Moshe’s mother was able to hide him for 3 months because he was born earlier than expected. But after that the Egyptians were looking for baby boys in order to kill them and so she had to put him in a basket and place it in the river and his sister Miriam watched him to make sure he was safe.
Pharaoh was so mean because he kept ‘hardening his heart’ as the Torah tells us. That means he wouldn’t listen to Moshe nor would he recognise that G-d was doing all these things in Egypt.
